WHO WE ARE

Mehta Sports Psychiatry is based in Los Angeles, California with a focus on the confidential evaluation and treatment of mental illness in both the general adult population and elite athletes. Treatment focuses on the relationship between mind and body, incorporating various therapeutic approaches including lifestyle modifications, therapy, and medication. Mental health conditions treated include depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, insomnia, and personality disorders. Other athlete-specific issues that we address include performance anxiety, overtraining syndrome, coping with acute injury recovery, and transition to retirement.

We accept the following insurances: Cigna, United Healthcare

If we are not in network with your insurance provider, we can provide a Superbill Receipt that you can submit to your insurance for reimbursement consideration.

Our providers promote a holistic approach to treatment. After completing a thorough intake assessment, medications may be considered whenever indicated. Part of this evaluation includes a discussion regarding the benefits and risks of medications in treating symptoms.

Therapy is an integral part treatment. There are various types of therapy modalities. Therapy techniques utilized in this clinic include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy. If you would benefit from a type therapy not available in our clinic, referrals can be made to specialists in the community.

Our clinic is able to offer case management support services in navigating mental health care and other resources in the community. Additionally, our providers prioritize case coordination with other providers whenever appropriate.

Our providers offer consultation services to teams and organizations interested in assessing and developing new mental health protocols or educational materials for athletes. Additional team services may include informational presentations on mental health and the role of treatment in addressing symptoms.

Telehealth video visits are being offered in addition to in-office visits. Hours are flexible including offerings for early morning, evenings, and weekends.

Dr. Pratik Mehta

Pyschiatrist

Pratik Mehta, MD, is a board-certified psychiatrist based in Los Angeles, CA. Dr. Mehta received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley, majoring in Public Health. He completed his medical degree at UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine and subsequently completed his psychiatry residency at the UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute where he served as the Inpatient Chief Resident. He has published research in several journals in addition to presenting research at multiple conferences.

Currently, Dr. Mehta is on faculty at the University of Southern California as the Sports Psychiatrist for USC Athletics. He is concurrently an Assistant Professor at UCLA and staff psychiatrist for the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health with a focus on homeless outreach initiatives.

Dr. Mehta has completed the International Society for Sports Psychiatry (ISSP) Certificate of Additional Training in Sports Psychiatry. He currently serves as a member of the Education Committee for the ISSP.

GINA SCRIMO PMH-NP

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner

Gina Scrimo is a Board-Certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, working in Los Angeles County. Gina completed her undergraduate degree at University of California, Irvine and received her Master of Science in Nursing degree from Vanderbilt University. Prior to completing her graduate studies, Gina worked as an emergency department nurse at a Los Angeles Level I Trauma Center, Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, for several years where she gained extensive experience caring for psychiatric patients. 

During her training, Gina had experience both at the UCLA Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital Inpatient Psychiatry Unit and within the community with the Department of Mental Health. She is passionate about bridging the gap in mental health care for patients in Los Angeles County and beyond. Gina believes strongly in a holistic approach to mental health, focusing on optimizing nutrition, physical health, and sleep while ensuring careful consideration is given to the need for medication and psychotherapy modalities.
